Local Election Summary 2023

For the first time since Theresa May’s premiership in 2019, England has gone to the polls for local elections – in a dramatically different political environment.
 
Though results continue to trickle in at the time of writing, the Labour Party looks set to cement its recent lead in the polls with huge wins across the breadth of the country. Rishi Sunak’s Conservatives, whilst creeping closer to Labour in national polling, have suffered a major setback – and victories in key targets for the Liberal Democrats will create another dimension as the UK heads into another election cycle.
 
Key questions are yet to be answered – namely on how directly local results will translate into national seats – but the starting gun has certainly been fired on the race for Downing Street.
